The Safest, Most Reliable &
Longest Lasting Conveyor Solutions
for Commercial Applications
The Gates Difference
In our experience, there’s no such thing as a ‘standard’ conveyor system – every project has different application challenges, different layouts, and different volume demands.
That’s why we offer over a half dozen belt designs, from slats to fabric to rollers. And that’s why we employ a staff of designers and engineers – so that we can work with our customers from a project’s conception to build a system that suits their specific needs.
So instead of a system configured from ‘off-the-shelf’ modules, your Gates solution will fit your space and needs precisely – including custom fabricated shelves and tables, and fixtures, if necessary – and will provide years of low maintenance service, whatever your budget.
All Gates conveyors also feature a range of industry-leading construction, safety, and efficiency innovations:
A Belt Drive System Built for Years of Service.
Energy efficient, 90VDC TENV (totally enclosed non-ventilated) Wash Down variable-speed (0 – 40fpm) electric motors are standard on all Gates conveyors. All Gates systems operate on 120V. 20-amp circuit.
Stainless steel drive sprockets are keyed and held to shafts with double locking set screws.
Solid stainless steel shafting with sealed-for-life bearings that require no lubrication.
Fully enclosed stainless steel continuous return channels with UHMWP return strips keep the return belt running straight and true.
Closed slider pan design keeps waste debris from passing to the belt below and also keeps waste build-up and odors to a minimum.
Half-hard stainless steel wear strips protect the slider pan from belt wear. On curved conveyors, we use super-duty synthetic glides on the insides of the turns for minimal friction.
All water area components are made of stainless steel, and systems feature belt wash system options, depending on your needs.
Gates Conveyors: Safe by Design.
All our conveyor systems conform with National Electrical Code and U.L. File# E70237, and Joint Industry Conference Standards.
A stainless steel sensor bar assembly instantly stops the conveyor when touched by the operator, eliminating pinch points and serious injury.
When the access panel to the drive housing is removed, all moving parts are still concealed by a stainless steel chain guard cover to further protect the operator from injury.
The power transmission system is totally enclosed, with a 90V D.C. drive system to ensure operator safety.
All Gates electrical controls are housed in NEMA 4X enclosures to offer maximum protection from exposure to water. Gates is the only company that does this as a standard product offering.
Every Gates conveyor comes with the industry leading safety controls/PLC/plug and go wiring because we are the standard for the industry. You never have to wonder about what you’re getting on a Gates Conveyor.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) / Relays | PLC
️
Why it Matters?
Gates designs conveyors for ease of use. If a panel goes out, the plug and play is universal, not customized to each conveyor. |
Relays / Smart Relays | Logic or Relays dependent on specs | Relays & Circuit boards, SCR Solid State DC Controller |
| Plug & Play Wiring | 100%
️
Why it Matters?
Plug and Play wiring saves the customer money at install. If an input is damaged, cables are available off the shelf. |

| Motor | Lesson, TENV, wash down rated, distributed throughout the world
️
Why it Matters?
Anything less than a washdown rated IP65 is not suitable for a dishroom. Our totally enclosed non-ventilated unit can be washed down and will not harbor debris or allow for growth of bacteria/mold. |

| Bearings | Stainless Steel bearings in steel housing, lubricated for life, no maintenance needed
️
Why it Matters?
Quality bearings drastically improve customer experience. Gates bearings are greased for life, so no maintenance is required. With regreasables, failure to re-grease as required can result in catastrophic bearing failure. |

| Drip Pan | Free and clear access via liftoff panels.
️
Why it Matters?
The drip pan is one of the most important features on a conveyor. Properly designed it will keep all the debris off the floor and allow for easy cleaning. Improper design increases contamination of the belting by running it through the drip pan. Some manufacturers don't slope pans unless required. Gates always provides a drip pan with maximum slope. This keeps our belting as far out of reach as possible for ease of cleaning. |
Design varies, not always accessible for cleaning, not always included as part of the conveyor. | Access via lift off panels | Drip pan accessible, but held by thin strips of metal and does not cover entire width belting. Wobbly and cheap. |
| Return Track | Always used, all return tracks support belting up and away from the drip pan. All return tracks lined with UHMWP of at least 1/2”
️
Why it Matters?
without a return track, washed belting is riding back in removed debris, coming back to the sight (and smell) of the customer. Quality return tracks should be lined with UHMWP plastic to minimize wear and noise. the use of peel and stick 1/32" or 1/16" UHMWP is not appropriate for longevity, nor is it designed for wet applications. |
Use stub-rollers that are prone to failure or allow belt to ride in pan. | UHMWP | Use return track with no UHMWP guides so belting is wearing on stainless. |
| Wearstrips | Belt Specific: UHMWP - 3/8”, NOLU S - 3/8” all designed to last 10+ years under normal use
️
Why it Matters?
Gates conveyors will have one of two types of wearstips. We do not use peel and stick and our Gatesglide waffle belt system uses a specialty material that allows for it to run lubrication free, saving money every month. |
Peel & stick down 1/32” or 1/16” UHMWP, not designed for wet environments, also uses a UHMWP for slates or no wearstrips. | Varies, some systems have no wear strips | Peel & stick down 1/32” or 1/16” UHMWP, not designed for wet environments or no wear strips |
| Control Panel Housing | NEMA 4x
️
Why it Matters?
A NEMA 4x enclosure is designed to withstand the wet, corrosive washdown envrionment of a disroom. Lower NEMA rated enclosures are not designed to meet these conditions. |
